Inheritance

"He chooses for us our inheritance" Psalm 47:4

My father chose to leave me his desk, six feet long by three and a half feet wide, solid mahagony. It takes up half my living room.
My grandmother left each grandchild a small sum of cash and whatever items in her estate we had given her as gifts.
My mother, lately deceased, inherited God's grace but left me in charge of her estate, the nitty-gritty details, the taxes, all the paperwork involved after dying---her remnants, her clutter all mine to dispose of. My rejoicing in her deliverance tempered with the reality of cleaning up.
In lieu of all this comes the fragment of scripture, "he chooses for us our inheritance." God being the He of the verse.
What inheritance does God choose to give us? I am blown away by the thought. I am an heir to God. He chose to count me as his child, to adopt me. Through a gift greater than anyone could imagine: the life and blood of His own son, Jesus Christ. No paperwork involved, no clutter to collect in my basement--- his heritage is undying love, eternal life. I open up His will (the Holy Bible) and read the words. No court, no lawyer can contest this estate and win. I have the riches of heaven coming my way.

Dear Darlene and Mike,

Since God called my mother Home over two years ago, I understand some of what you are going through. Now the Resurrection is more real emotionally, and life is more present-tense again.

I continue to appreciate the depth of your work and your knowledge of craft. Hope many people post comments on Berg's Ink. Thanks for doing this!
